CINIS RPG Release Blog

Hey everyone!

A slightly odd announcement today. I've released another CINIS game, but this time not a full feature complete game. It's only a prototype meant as a proof of concept of a much, much bigger game idea. It's made in 1-3 months (depends on how you count the weeks).

It's an RPG! It features a small open world, boss fights, dialogue, NPCs, and even a new inventory system and cinematics, and takes about 1-2 hours to complete, but with play in Arena Mode too, it could be more.

This started out as a much smaller concept, but slowly grew over the summer. As I kept making it, it just felt *right*. I've always wanted to include named characters, bosses, and story / lore in CINIS. But never found a great way to do it. One day the idea of turning the game away from Roguelike into an RPG came to me. But the idea seemed too big.

So, I prototyped it. The gameplay loop, an open world, all of that, within the gameplay framework from CINIS Survivor. This way I could keep the gameplay that I liked and knew worked, but extend it in the areas of inventory, exploration, and lore.

Arena mode from Survivor is still in CINIS RPG, it is fully playable. And, CINIS Survivor will be getting an update too, as the game has been rebalanced and bug fixed more, with some new mechanics (melee weapon!) being added. In the future, I might do a full project merge however, likely making CINIS RPG the only CINIS game, with Survivor only getting updates through here, but it's not a guarantee.

I really enjoy the RPG angle to the game. I feel like it is somehow the game I wanted to make all along, but never realized it would be an RPG. I also feel like I'm no where near done even exploring the idea. So I'll keep on working on this prototype and make new ideas for it, and release those as updates. I think it's a decent way of doing development for the future for the time being. I don't have too much time to devote to a full-scale release just yet, but this with prototyping I think could work great.

So the future of the prototype might hold:

- Character classes
- Armor sets
- Better world and level design (Much needed)
- Consumables
- More enemies and variation
- More weapons
- Better UI
- And who knows :^)

A lot of ideas and ways to improve the experience, especially in finding the middle ground between RPG and FPS, as well as world and level design. I think the class system I've designed with some help from testers could work out quite great, but only time and had work will tell. Future updates may also have some more music composed for it, but no guarantees!

I can't say how long it'll be to the next update for the prototype, it depends on so many things, but I'm fully willing to keep working on it and adding more to it.

I hope you check it out, and enjoy the game. Please give me any feedback on the experience! Always willing to learn more!
